Using the School Holidays to Focus on Your Life Right Now
Dear Teachers,
School holidays can slip by quickly. One moment they begin with a sense of freedom, and the next, they’re gone in a blur of errands, rest, and catching up with others. But what if you set aside time to pause—not for chores or plans, but for considering what you truly want for your life right now?
Making the effort to step out of the usual rhythm of school holidays and into a different space can be incredibly valuable. This moment of consideration doesn’t need to stretch across days to be meaningful. A few intentional moments can bring surprising clarity about what matters most and where your energy should flow. I love this time of year to set intentions. Its a chance to be ahead of the new years resolution bandwagon and genuinely think about what the next few months could be used for that aligns with changes I’d like to make.
How to Spend the Time
Choose your space: Find somewhere that feels grounding—whether that’s a quiet café, a park, or a sunny corner at home. I’ll often book a catch up with a friend and get to the cafe earlier and use the time as I wait to do this. Find what works for you!
Keep it simple: This is not about being productive. It’s about slowing down and listening to yourself.
Bring what you need: A notebook, pen, or your phone. Maybe a coffee or tea—nothing more is required.
One Quality Question To Explore
Where do I want to direct my focus in the months ahead? Perhaps its your purpose, the people in your life and wealth. Or maybe its your health, travel dreams and career re-alignment. Whatever pops up for you is perfect.
This moment isn’t about mapping out the next five years. It’s about tuning in to the present moment. Lives evolve in seasons, and giving attention to what you need right now ensures you’re living with intention rather than on autopilot.
There’s also something about this time of year that naturally invites intention-setting. As summer approaches, it feels good to enter the season with elements of clarity and momentum. Even if it’s simply an emotional shift, carrying that sense of direction into the warmer months can create a lighter, more energised way forward. And when it’s the lead-up to winter, that same clarity can feel cosy and grounding—like settling in with purpose rather than finding yourself stuck in the middle of the cold season or lost in the haze of summer.
Carrying It Forward
Choose one small action that aligns with what you discovered. It might be making space for something you love, letting go of something that no longer serves you, or shifting how you approach the weeks ahead. Is there an email could send to network with someone, a simple google search to get things moving, or perhaps its saving a podcast to listen to later on. An idea you would like to flag with your principal or even directing your social media algorithm to begin showing you travel destinations for your next dream holiday! The key is to carry clarity (even if only small) into daily life.
✨ This school holiday, give yourself this moment. Not to get ahead. Not to catch up. But to pause and ask:
What do I want for my life right now?
Sincerely,
Hannah
